Guacamole never tasted so good.

Muncher. Snacker. Grazer. These are all names that I have been called. I am often caught with something in my mouth. Food, that is, people… I love to snack but have learned over time that everything I put into my body must be as nutritious as possible. Food is the fuel for your body. Our society has really forgotten that concept and we are now more overfed and undernourished then ever in history. Getting the most out of every bite is now a regular thought for me. Anytime I think about reaching for a fake flavoured chip, buying a pre-made dip or reaching for a pastry someone has brought into work I ask myself “Does this nourish my body and prevent disease?”. If I look at the ingredients and the answer is no then I usually move on. Sometimes, it’s hard to say no to these types of foods. So, instead I make them from scratch at home. From real ingredients. And I am totally satisfied.

This guacamole is awesome, if I do say so myself. It look me a while to get into eating avocados, but now I am totally in love with them. *sigh*. Not only do they offer you heart happy fats, that replenish your hair, skin and nails but they can be used in SO many ways (even in desserts…). I will bring a whole avocado to work and it eat it with my meal. Why not? It’s compact, a superfood and tastes great as a side.  Avocados are little Q’s favourite food. We will often go through 3-5 a week. Make sure your avocados are ripe when making this recipe – the skin should be black and soft but not squishy. When you cut it open, the guts should be a nice green colour, no black or brown spots. I like to buy mine green and hard, then let them ripen naturally on the counter for a few days.

Pair this with no salt organic corn chips or use as a spread on your next sandwich in place of mayo. Tangy with a little bit of spice. My mouth is watering just writing about this…a little crunch with a whole lotta flavour that is good for you! Now that’s my kind of snack.

    Yum! My favourite too!
Little extra tips: I, too, often replace mayo with it. Ever had it with Tuna? Also, it seems to ripen quicker if placed with bananas, and doesn’t absorb its aroma (I once put it beside oranges, tasted like orange peel after that!). ;)

Yes, the bananas give off a gas (ethylene) that help it ripen faster. We don’t eat tuna anymore because fresh salmon is so accessible out here, but I love to top my maple glazed salmon with it. I love that sweet and tangy contrast. Thanks for reading D! xo
